SCREENWRITERS AND DIRECTORS FROM AROUND THE WORLD PARTICIPATED IN THIS IMPORTANT MEETING OF AUDIOVISUAL AUTHORS.
WIPO (Worldwide Organization for Intellectual Property) and FESAAL (Latin American Audiovisual Authors Societies Federation), in collaboration with DNDA (National Direction of Authors´ Rights) of Columbia, together with the CMOs REDES (Screenwriters of Colombia), and DASC ( Directors of Colombia), held an on-line debate about action taken to defend the rights of audiovisual authors in Colombia.

DBCA (Brazilian Film and Audiovisual Directors) announces to companies who broadcast Brazilian audiovisual content (terrestrial television, via subscription and streaming services), that author’s rights shall be payable very time an audiovisual work is broadcast publicly on any platform, under the current Author’s Rights Act.
On December 18, the Uruguayan Parliament passed the Copyright law for the Audiovisual sector, enacted by the current President Tabaré Vázquez, with the support of all political parties.
President Martin Vizcarra signed Urgency Decree Nr° 022-2019 , which has as its main objective to promote cinematographic and audiovisual activity to the ends of contributing to its integral, sustained and inclusive development, as in 2019 it presented a slowdown in its growth and development, putting its dynamics at risk, as well as the circulation and insertion of cinematographic and audiovisual works in the national market, and the competitiveness of the activity.
Last August 30th., in Argentina, a decree was signed in which a maximum fee for TV airings is established for all societies of artists and interpreters, while in Brazil, put an end to the collection of author’s rights in hotel rooms.
The most important television networks in Colombia, Caracol Televisión and Canal RCN, recognize and sign a payment agreement for the Colombian author’s rights for Audiovisual Directors and Screenwriters, through DASC – Directors Colombia and REDES – Screenwriters Colombia CMOs
The Federation of Societies of Latin American Audiovisual Authors– FESAAL, held their Annual Congress on October 2nd and 3rd at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in the city of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, gathering the Authors representing the member societies, together with their technicians, in two working days, where the main focus of the meeting was the defence of authors ´rights in the region.
After the signature of a memorandum of cooperation, collaboration and understanding, the DGK– Directors Guild of Korea – joins the Federation of Societies of Latin American Audiovisual Authors as an adjoin association.
